live music it is necessary to make a

communication to the representative.

Payment depends on the formula of

the event. Normally, we do not need

the service: we have a minimum of

equipment that is usually sufficient to

cover our technical needs. In general,

artists and musicians have their own

equipment. To play in a restaurant

they shouldn’t be too complex or

powerful. “

The mythical former DJ and radio

speaker Gianni Naso, professional

companion of Renzo Arbore for

years . In the Bio Restaurant there

are special menus in the form of

compact disc: the culinary choices

are entirely dedicated to the world

of the seven notes. “We aim for

events with known artists, such

as Cugini di Campagna, Edoardo

Vianello, Amedeo Minghi, Adriano

Pappalardo, Fiordaliso, Oretta

Berti. But the cover bands are also

strong. For the SIAE instead we pay

the classic forfeit. Instead, for the

events you fill out the expenses list.

In addition, it is not appropriate to

use a service but to rent equipment,

because each artist has their own

needs.” The seasonal nature decreses

in winter. “Leaving behind the

beautiful season misses the desire

to unwind, dance and sing, and also

lowers the demand for weddings.

In our opinion, music, unlike food,

is an abstract activity. “ Another

expert is without doubt Vittorio

Tarantola, of the restaurant and

catering service Tarantola of Appiano

Gentile (CO): “As in all areas, a high

quality service is more than possible,

even when it comes to music. For

ways to go about it leave it to us.

Our structure produces tailor-made

services for every kind of event. You

have to work with various business

partners to widen the range.”

THE WORD TO THE ARTISTS AND

THEIR NEEDS

The Wink Cover Band is formed by

five elements and plays at events

such as weddings and corporate

parties and its strong point is

definitely the vast repertoire and

remakes (883 and Vasco Rossi in

all). “Aim for a rigorously live sound,

without backing tracks, sequences

or recordings makes the difference,”

says spokesman Andrea Fontana.

“We take care of carrying out the

SIAE obligations. Our direct contact

is often the pair of newlyweds or the

company and not the location that

hosts the event. We have a service

company that follows us during the

events, audio professionals and, if

necessary, lighting and stage when

the band is invited to perform

outdoors.”

There is also pop-up music alternative

called Food Pusher, the first open

source project in the world (Italian)

that brings disc jockey (also possibly

a guest chef), music, animation and

mobile structure organising any

permit and solving any technological

and logistical problem. The idea is

to put in front of an audio console

(equipped with monitors, i.e.

speakers, amplifiers, mixers and

reproducers) one equipped with a

hotplate (and food preparation area).

Decorate the remaining space with

ornamental plants, poufs, chairs,

cubes, panels, so an exclusive space

is created (a privé) at every moment

and every place. Support, guerrilla

marketing action and promotion on

traditional media and social networks.

SOME POINTERS FROM THE U.S.

Corrado Rizza has lived in Miami,

Florida, since 2012, and has carved

out his space as a DJ in very

alternative places, such as Hotel

Delano or the restaurant Toscana

Divino. “These are places where

people enjoy listening to music

during dinner or drinking a cocktail

without necessarily dancing, they are

places with soft but not psychedelic

lights or outdoor restaurants or

sunny pools, where even the volume

of music allows conversation.” The

most popular genres are the 70s

disco, funk but also house music

and melodic tunes. “Music helps

to spend a different evening. But

beware: attention must be paid to

the volume. Customers want to talk,

not shout.” In the United States there

is more freedom in proposing live

music. “I have never noticed in all

these years the presence of copyright

representatives comparable to our

agents of the SIAE. I often find the

equipment in the premises where

I play music, here everyyone is

organised. And when you need a

more powerful system I call a trade

professional (in my case Enrico

Carducci). You always have to opt for

excellence.”

THE ALTERNATIVE TO SIAE

Each owner has the right to enrich his

business and his commercial range

by playing music in compliance with

the law and recognising the relative

rights to artists and producers, other

than copyright protected by instead

by SIAE. With a simple and single

license, more than 60,000 bars, pubs

and restaurants broadcast music with

custom playlists, radio and TV via

airwave, digital or web. Thanks to the

SCF license for the use of music, it

is possible to enrich the proposal of

one’s own locale, while respecting the

legality, with all kinds of music. More

than 20 million tracks belonging to

the more than 400 record producers

represented by the company.
