new roads. At the same time we have

given the cooperative our experience

in the sectors related to meats and

dairy products, in which we have

been protagonists for more time. The

second reason refers to a question of

image: being able to present strongly

to the market by belonging to CIC is

an element of solidity appreciated and

therefore constitutes a driving force to

expand business. The third and final

reason concerns the range: should

a customer ask us for a product not

present in our range, certainly access

to the cooperative can easily allow the

offer of an agreed product.

Daunia Alimenti:

Quality Assurance

Attention to customers, willingness

and high-level products. This is the

basis of the success of the Pugliese

company, a model of professionalism

born from a family history

By Maddalena Baldini

When it comes to Puglia we focus

immediately on the natural beauty,

the sea and the thousands of

gastronomic specialities scattered

throughout the length of the

territory. In fact, in the heel of the

peninsula, there is a dense network

of companies operating in the agri-

food sector in demand between

services, distribution systems and

supply of products. This is the

case of Daunia Alimenti, a regional

company based in Foggia, and active

for several decades. Started in 1976

through the merit and passion of the

Cancellaro family, Daunia Alimenti

today represents a model of capability

and excellence. “Everything was born

as a food wholesale, destined mainly

for the supply of ingredients for

pizzerias, bakeries, ice cream parlours

and confectionery - says Gaetano

Cancellaro, responsible for the

administrative part of the company

- despite having passed many years,

the goal has always been to guarantee

our customers high quality products.”

What does your product range

offer?

Since the beginning of the company

we have added a rich variety of

products. Certainly the market and

consumer needs have changed and,

necessarily, we have kept abreast

with the times. Today we supply

flours, cold cuts, frozen foods of all

kinds, ingredients for bakeries, up

to flavourings and extracts essential

for the sweet production in the

confectionery sector.

How much has the rich Pugliese

tradition influenced the work of

the Daunia Alimenti?

Puglia is a region so varied that it is

completely impossible to ignore it,

especially if you talk about food and

wine! It can boast a kaleidoscope of

specialities ranging from sea products

to those of the land, from wines to

precious oil. Although it is a known

and beloved region it still has a very

high potential, in part unexplored.

At Daunia Alimenti we live with this

rich background and we identify with

it in our everyday work: many of our

products and our range start from

the tradition of the region to which,

always to satisfy the many demands,

we add a modern touch. The results

we obtain speak for themselves.

What is your strong point?

We operate on the territory. Among

the suppliers we have the leading

companies on the market, mainly

for the sectors of confectionery,

ice-cream and pizzeria; this is an

added value to the entire distribution

network and to the end consumer.

It is quality assurance without

neglecting the variety of the range

of products offered. In addition, in

this way, we give a valid support to

the internal economy that can always

count on regional entrepreneurship.

Where does Daunia Alimenti

operate and distribute?

Daunia Alimenti distributes its range

throughout most of the territory of

Foggia and province. We can count

on valid staff and a well organised

delivery system, to promptly supply

customer requests and orders. In

addition, our staff offers constant

assistance at every stage of the supply.

How do you address the market

and its new demands?

We are organised to always give

a ‘right response’ to customer

requirements. We give suggestions

and advice on the products we

deliver, especially for the more

perishable products, even in

anticipation of stores in the

warehouse. Inevitably we always keep

abreast of news, market trends and

requests coming from a constantly

evolving sector such as catering.

What awaits you in the future?

We definitely want to preserve our

tradition and that passion that has

been handed down to us from the past

and from the distant 1976. We strive to

have an ever wider range of products

without ever losing sight of quality.

Satisfying the customer is our priority.

Generational handover,

improvisation forbidden

In an increasingly complex and

competitive sector, which has greatly

changed over the past decade,

parents and children must listen to

each other and work together with a

wide-ranging project. With deadlines

for the handover

By Anna Muzio

An army of companies, businesses,

hotels and restaurants, many born

in the 60s and 70s, have reached the

stage of handover in Italy. A country

that grows older: suffice to think that
