March/April 2023 I MAGAZINE AT PAGE 1 The importance of being visionary Do you know what the best compliment you can give an entrepreneur is? Being a visionary. Yes, because vision allows you to create your pole star without limitations, a realistic but ambitious goal. Usually, when we define goals, we immediately think of something that is possible to do: however, no one would ever reach the moon or the summit of Mount Everest with this reasoning. Vision has great advantages: it gives us direction, a result to be achieved. For companies, it is the engine that drives people to always be innovative, to give their all, to believe in it to the end. And it is precisely in pursuit of this vision that we made our own way, which sees us increasingly active in numerous national and international events. Most recently, the participation of our Cooperative in the recent edition of Cibus Connecting in Parma where, once again, the Qualitaly brand was the protagonist (report on page 6). An unstoppable march that we have a duty to continue, not least in the light of the turnover results presented by the Annual Catering Report (p. 12), which shows an upward trend in 2023 with a value of approximately 82 billion euro achieved by the sector, exceeding 43 billion euro in 2022 (+18% compared to the previous year). True, there remain several issues that need to be addressed and resolved, starting with the matter of price, which is intertwined with the well-known climatic problems that have led to a stellar jump in the cost of ingredients, as in the case of tomatoes (report on page 20). But entrepreneurs in the public sector are also targeted by issues that are not purely economic. This is the case with the new food trends which, although they record a return to more or less ancestral traditions (p. 30), on the other hand there’s a new scenario opening up on the horizon, that of edible insects including cricket flour (report on p. 42). It is too early to say whether CIC will have to adapt to these ‘changes’ and include a Qualitaly branded product that responds to this new trend. Today, if a company wants to be successful, must necessarily have a team culture approach. Until a few decades ago, effectiveness and efficiency might have been enough to secure a place in the market. Now things have changed and these two elements, for as relevant and important as they are, are no longer sufficient to ensure the survival of an enterprise. This can only be possible by bringing together the work of many individual professionals in a harmonious team in which the working climate and environment play the fundamental part in the final success. But what should the right approach be in building a winning team? Many of you know my passion for sport. This time, however, I will tell you about a particular ‘sport’ that explains perfectly what my vision of the team is.
