FEB. MAR. 2020 II not easy to go all the way, but I still feel I have to do it. This is the essence of the metaphor: choosing who to be and doing everything in our power to achieve our goals without looking too far back. “Forward everyone: this is the route, this is the direction, this is the decision” (the verse of the song). And this is exactly the message I want to convey to my colleagues and the members of Cooperativa Italiana Catering. Often, each of us, in our daily work, feels we have to make choices, sometimes even complex ones. This is true. The market in which we operate is really undergoing a profound transformation. And we operators feel compelled to always keep up with the times. This generates constant doubts about what the right path to take should be. That’s why I wanted to start this speech from what has recently become my motto: ‘I threw my luggage into the sea. Straight ahead, full speed ahead. This is the route. This is the direction. This is the decision!’. I think we at CIC are operating at our best, and the numbers confirm it. This means that the choices made both in our individual companies and - more generally - in terms of the Cooperative, make us understand that we must continue in this way, the direction is the right one. We must continue to work as a team, confronting each other, updating ourselves, training our customers by providing them with the best solutions and the best products available on the market. Also, on the branded products front, we must be careful and always be ready to offer all the best possible solutions, in order to continue this work of loyalty that is bearing fruit. I really think that ours is a solid entity, the catering industry really sees us as an important reference point for its business. That’s why we have to go straight down this road, looking ahead and keeping our sail steady. The route is the right one! By Nicola Levorato AT PAGE 6 News U.S. tariffs for PDO and PGI, Origin Italy are waived The fear of a tightening of US import tariffs for PDO and PGI products has vanished and therefore the supply chain can take a relieved breath and focus on actions to give stability to the market. The good news comes in these hours together with the publication of the list of the American USTR which indicates the products subject to tariffs and in which the Italian agri- food industry does not appear. “A further increase in tariffs over 25% of the value applied in October would have been a serious blow for the entire PDO and PGI production chain,” says the President of OriGIn Italy Cesare Baldrighi, “as well as for importers and US consumers themselves who are looking for distinctiveness and specificity in our products.” The risk of causing irreparable economic damage to Made in Italy excellence has therefore been averted, thanks above all to the praiseworthy teamwork carried out in recent months by both national and EU institutions. In this process, the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies has played an undoubtedly decisive role, showing its ability and authority and a constant presence at the European tables. VAT increase for bars and restaurants averted “We note with satisfaction the clear position taken by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) against any hypothesis of an increase in VAT rates for bars and restaurants.” This is the comment of the President of Fipe, Lino Enrico Stoppani. “We hope that this position will be maintained not so much to put an end to speculation and cyclical rumours, but rather to avoid the negative effects that the increase would produce for an important sector of the Italian economy, also considering its strong role in the country’s tourism dynamics,”, concluded Stoppani. Anbc: no discounts for those who exploit undeclared work “We take note of the investigation that in recent days has dismantled a network of 250 irregular workers in the Brescia area, also employed in catering services. Our association can only strongly and unequivocally condemn such incidents.” Thus Paolo Capurro, President of Anbc, the Italian National Association of Banqueting and Catering, comments on the operation “Master Black” conducted by the Guardia di Finanza in Lombardy. “Undeclared labour,” continues Capurro, “is a phenomenon that afflicts many sectors of the Italian economy and, unfortunately, also ours. Our association was born with this very purpose: to bring together and defend those who do this difficult job with seriousness and professionalism. Those who join Anbc guarantee that they always work regularly and must necessarily be defended against the bad light that a certain type of ‘entrepreneur’ casts on an important sector that represents over 1100 companies. Customers must be careful to turn to certified companies, like all those in Anbc”. Food and wine tourism, Italy leader in Europe The role of food and wine in tourism is becoming more and more central: 71% of people travelling want to experience memorable food and wine, while 59% of tourists say that themed experiences help them choose between several destinations. The 2020 edition of the “Report on Italian Food and Wine Tourism”, edited by Roberta Garibaldi under the aegis of the World Food Travel Association and the Italian Food and Wine Tourism Association, presented in Milan at UniCredit Tower Hall, offers a complete and thorough picture of a tourism sector that has been showing a continuous growth trend in recent years. As many as 735 pages of data and analysis to outline both the offer of the “Italian system”, compared to European and national level, and the profile of international tourists from France, United Kingdom, Canada, MAGAZINE
