AUG. SEP. 2019 XVI AT PAGE 54 IN THE WINDOW The clothes maketh the man In English we say “tasty. “The link between ‘clothes and man’ is essential when it comes to packaging. The challenge is to be contemporary while talking about manufacturing excellence and craftsmanship, to express one’s personality trying to dare, to intrigue the consumer, to anticipate trends.” These are the words of Carlo Angelini, who 30 years ago founded the graphic design agency of the same name that has overseen several projects and restyling of companies operating in the agro-food sector. The packaging is the product’s clothing. That’s why at CIC we too wanted to redefine the dressing of our preserves by standardising the graphics to making the Qualitaly brand range more recognisable and attractive. A new image that deliberately does not completely detach itself from the previous one to maintain a continuity with the past. We have maintained the main graphic features adding a touch of modernity: the alternating diagonal lines now stand out against a white background which is combined with a very impressive image that sees the tomato as the absolute protagonist. Moreover, for Italy canned goods represent one of the most active and important items of our food production. Just to give a few figures: in the domestic market, 56% of tomato products are represented by puree, the best-selling product, followed by pulp (24%), whole peeled tomatoes (15%) and cherry tomatoes (3%) - source IRI - 1.5% goes to concentrate while the other derivatives, i.e. ready sauces and tomato-based sauces, only 0.5%. And we at CIC can boast a truly complete range - under the Qualitaly brand - obtained from the processing of 100% Italian, non-GMO tomatoes, fresh, healthy, ripe, well washed, peeled, ground, with the addition of a concentrated enrichment juice and subjected to a pasteurisation and can-filling process in compliance with current European legislation. • Fine Tomato Pulp Available in 3 and 5 kg cans and 3 and 5 kg bags in a box. • Tomato puree Available in 3 kg jars. In addition, the Qualitaly range is completed by 3 kg tinned peeled tomatoes and Collina tomatoes in sizes of 1.3 and a 0.5 kg. Even for these last two products, the graphic design will soon be restyled, which will be standardised with the same guidelines as the other canned tomatoes. Born from an idea of the Longo brothers (Paola, Giovanni and Osvaldo) in 2005, today the Fuoricasello Guide is an easy to consult, clear, intuitive and informative volume. The new edition has been graphically updated and has also grown in number of restaurants: 828 restaurants located just minutes from the exits of motorways and highways. Every restaurant or trattoria must respect precise parameters: it must be easily reachable from the tollgate within a few km and a few minutes, ensure good food at a fair price, offer certain services for children and make sure that the stop is really a moment of pleasure to be shared with family, children or a group of friends! by Bruno Barbieri IT WILL TASTE BETTER TOMORROW (DOMANI SARÀ PIÚ BUONO) www.mondadori.it € 19,90 “What can be done if leftovers remain, tomatoes, meat sauce or a piece of turbot are left? These are opportunities to give birth to other dishes: there is no need to write a new recipe, just follow the imagination and the next day the dish will be better. Sustainability, the fight against waste, food awareness: in my home kitchens, as in those of ships, these are the values that drove me to write this book and that I found in the 4goodfood project of Costa Crociere.” That’s what’s behind the new book by Bruno Barbieri, multi- starred chef and judge of MasterChef, who is back in the bookstore with ‘Tomorrow will be better’. Each dish can be created with new recipes. A book produced in collaboration with Costa Crociere dedicated to the theme of re-use in the kitchen (more than 100 recipes each combined with a suggestion for the re-use of ingredients) and is enriched by a photo shoot taken between Italy and Istanbul by Stefano Scatà. by Slow Food 2019 EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL GUIDE www.slowfoodeditore. it € 16,50 After two online editions, the printed guide dedicated to extra virgin olive oil is back.
