JUN. JUL. 2019 I JUNE-JULY 2019 AT PAGE 1 A star that shines with its own light On 1 of January 1999, the euro was officially born: the single European currency, which would only be put into circulation definitively three years later. On 11 of January 1999, Fabrizio De André, now considered Italy’s greatest singer-songwriter, died. On 7 March 1999, Stanley Kubrick left us, director - among the many films - of 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange and The Shining. On 21 March 1999, Roberto Benigni’s film “La Vita è Bella” triumphed at the Oscars, winning the statuette for the best foreign film, for the best leading actor (Benigni himself) and for the best soundtrack (by Nicola Piovani). And then 10 May 1999. An important date for all of us at CIC. That very day Cooperativa Italiana Catering was born, a ‘supernova’ in a galaxy made up of many structured entities, both in terms of assortment and logistical capacity. The cooperative was made up of small local distribution companies that already had their own position in the territory in which they operated, but which lacked that plus that could make a difference in the market. And we made the difference with the intuition of creating a line of branded products, widely distributed throughout the peninsula, with medium/high quality at a competitive price. Several pioneers of this ambitious project are still with us today and we wanted to reward with a special plaque delivered on the occasion of the anniversary, on 10 May. A day of memories, starting with the minute’s silence for former President Italo Nebiolo, who left us in October 2018 after a long illness. And then the stories of those who were there 20 years ago who wanted to relive and share experiences and goals that have made our company great. I would like to express my special thanks to all of you and I would like to warn you that you will always have to have the same determination and pioneer spirit mixed with the desire to make our brands and our Cooperative Italiana Catering even bigger and “brighter”. By Vincenzo Murgia AT PAGE 3 Less at home, more outside Cook and Master of Business Administration Mirco Kurreck, F&B expert, explained in a recent interview what changes food culture is going through. Kurreck expects, at the latest in ten years’ time, a situation in which home cooking will be the exception. Those rare moments when you decide to use the kitchen will be celebrated as a special occasion in which the whole family gathers. Many consumers will devote less and less time to preparing meals and will increasingly choose pre-packaged or ready-to-eat foods, food delivery and, above all, eating out. All this opens up an even more competitive scenario among the Ho.Re. Ca. points of sale that can no longer improvise. It will be important to have an impeccable organisation: from the range, to the management of food, from the quality of ingredients and the selection of suppliers. And that’s where we of CIC come in. In order to continue to build (and maintain) customer loyalty it will be important to recognise the needs of the customers and transmit them to the Cooperative in order to find a prompt response to the market. And that’s where our magazine comes in. Qualitaly must be experienced as a work tool: we must learn to carefully read the services offered, which always strive to be a showcase to the world. A world that can often seem so far from ours, but that is actually closer than it seems. MAGAZINE Traduzione a cura di Christopher Farley
